DNS domain names are about to become tradeable onchain thanks to 3DNS, a web3-ENS integrated registrar. If you’ve got a regular domain like a .com already, you’ll just need to transfer it from your current registrar to 3DNS. Or you can buy a new .com (or any other tld) from 3DNS directly. In practice, as long as the domain name remains at 3DNS, its ownership will be governed by whomever owns the NFT connected to the domain.
That means if one were to move decashed.com to 3DNS, they could transfer ownership of that domain by simply sending someone the NFT of the domain. This is all made possible with ENS and Optimism, an Ethereum layer 2. If Optimism sounds scary, it’s not. You can use the same ethereum address just as if you were using Polygon or Base. Here’s me bridging some eth to Optimism, for example.
3DNS recently tweeted that “we’re still in our waitlist phase and haven’t integrated all TLDs just yet.”
But stay tuned!
